Notebook

I found this over at Shannon Stacey’s place. She tagged “everyone,” so I decided to play.

Your Name: Jean

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Definitely hot chocolate. The mere thought of egg nog grosses me out.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Wraps, most definitely. But Santa hasn’t visited in a very long time. He said I was too old or something. At least he doesn’t leave coal. Of course, there was that time in 1979 where coal for Christmas would have been a good thing…in fact, I think it was on my list.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Colored. We have the large bulbed old-fashioned kind for the front porch, and I love ‘em.
4. Do you hang mistletoe? No.
5. When do you put your decorations up? Usually, we don’t. Never before Thanksgiving and usually around the 15th — maybe. It’s been a few years, and hubby did it last time before I got home. We usually take them down shortly after the New Year.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish? Only one? Hubby’s rotisserie fresh ham. (And, yes, I’ll eat it this year too, even though I’ve switched to vegetarianism. People eat “bad” on holidays all the time. If I choose to eat ham or turkey, I see no problem with it once or twice a year.)
7. Favorite holiday memory as a child: I was a child? When did that happen? Who authorized that!
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I think I was about ten. One of my friends told me. Yeah, I know. I should have figured it out, but I was the oldest with much younger siblings. As a teenager, I played the Easter Bunny for several years and thoroughly enjoyed it.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Nope. I’m one of the few people (apparently) who can wait. Even if I get a package in the mail, I’ll wait until Christmas morning to open it.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? Usually, we don’t. When we do, hubby runs the train around the bottom of it. It has lights, ornaments, the usual stuff. We have it packed away somewhere and aren’t quite sure where.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? Love it when it’s falling and fluffy and white. Hate it when it’s gray and nasty.
12. Can you ice skate? You must be joking. No? Last time I ice skated, it was in Central Park and I left a brand new pair of custom made lightweight orthotics in the skates. I still can’t believe I did that, and it was seven years ago.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Probably one of my plush monkeys. For many years all I wanted was a live monkey — instead, I got plush ones. It was probably just as well.
14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Time with hubby.
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Pie — pumpkin or cherry (with the criss-cross top crust). Warm with vanilla ice cream on top.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Going home to hubby.
17. What tops your tree? I don’t remember.
18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? Giving.
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Probably “Joy to the World”
20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? Eh. I can take them or leave them.

I’m tagging…anybody that wants to play.

  1. That ham sounds gooood. I am a sucker for ham. Can you email some? Sharing is nice :)

  2. Hey, great idea. I played along.

  3. Ah, ham. Fresh hams are low in fat, and what fat there is drips as it turns on the rotisserie. It’s simple preparation, hubby pokes cloves into it and ties it onto the rotisserie with string.

We have a wonderful 50’s era Kenmore gas stove with both an electric (small on one side) and gas oven. The center section has a griddle as well as the rotisserie. It’s not much to look at these days, but everything works, and we both love cooking hams on it.

You did get that slice in your email, right, Steve?
